Background


I have always been one to take the bull by the horns, choosing a path that could be considered a little out of the ordinary. While in high school, I studied computer science at night and learned to fly on weekends, which eventually led to my working as a commercial pilot and flying instructor to subsidize my University education. My post-graduate degree in medicine emerged out from studies and research at three universities in Sweden, where I later defended my thesis on “Free Radicals in Cellular Pathology” before joining an international pharmaceutical company as Director of Medical and Field Communications.


After getting radioactively rained on in the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster, my wife and I moved our family from Sweden to Canada where I chose to pursue my passion as an entrepreneur - applying the valuable knowledge, skills and experience I had gleaned in technology, science and medicine into building successful companies for myself and with others – and that’s exactly what I have been doing with pride, passion and perseverance for the past 25 years.


Experience


With an eclectic background, I bring my wide-ranging experience to the table for every project – and every challenge. I’ve built nine companies and fixed or rescued quite a number of others over the past 25 years. As the founder and visionary behind TCT-ThunderByte, we were the first anti-virus software company to integrate heuristic virus scanning, virus detection & infection notification into modern day e-mail, which lead to our acquisition by Authentex Software Corporation.


As one of the creative masterminds behind award-winning DataSafe encryption software, we were recognized by Windows magazine as the Encryption Product of the Year, leading to our acquisition by California-based NovaStor Corporation, later acquired by Mount 10.


At iotum, my partner Alec Saunders and I became the Voice 2.0 pioneers, co-authoring 13 patent applications and achieving broad industry recognition as demoGOD (2006), Internet Telephony Product of the Year (2005, 2006), CATA Alliance Innovator 2006, Business 2.0 Next Net 25 and 2007 Gartner Summit “Cool Company”.


At Shieltronics, we commercialized an innovative microwave packaging technology that enables frozen ice cream to be microwaved on the same plate with a bowl of soup, with the ice cream remaining frozen while the soup heats up – that’s what I call changing the world!
